Why this zero

The 6.5 Creedmoor earned its place by doing one thing exceptionally: launching long, slippery bullets that refuse to slow down. A 140gr match bullet with a G1 BC around .58 keeps more velocity at 400 yards than many cartridges hold at 250 — which means less drop, less wind, and a DOPE card with smaller numbers all the way down.

That efficiency is why the 100 yard zero is nearly unanimous in Creedmoor circles. The cartridge's whole appeal is precision at distance via dialed corrections, and every published 6.5 drop chart, factory box table and match app assumes the 100 baseline. Zeroing anywhere else just makes your rifle disagree with your data.

WATCH OUT

Factory 140gr match loads cluster near 2,700 fps but your barrel length moves that number — 24 inches versus 20 can shift velocity enough to matter at distance. Chronograph your load and regenerate the table; the zero itself barely moves, but the far DOPE does.

Why does everyone zero the 6.5 Creedmoor at 100 yards?

Convention plus physics. The cartridge is built for dialed long-range work, and 100 yards gives the most repeatable, condition-proof baseline to dial from. All standard 6.5 data assumes it, so any other zero forces you to translate every chart you touch.

How much less does a 6.5 drop than a .308?
